THE
EDIT

The design world this week: real makers, real collections, real conversations, and the people worth knowing. Curated daily, released weekly, everything sourced.

Designer of the Week

James Cherry

Lighting · Los Angeles & New York, USA

Named to Sight Unseen's 2025 American Design Hot List after a year lighting half the rooms worth photographing in New York.

James Cherry makes light look handmade. His lamps expose their internal grid structures, then soften them under resin-coated fabric and small cedar accents, a tension between engineering and glow. Commissioned by interior designers from Jamie Bush to Studio Shamshiri, he has quietly become one of the most in-demand lighting makers working today.

Zoffany and Michael S. Smith take the archive outdoors with 13 performance designs

Michael S. Smith has drawn 13 new stripes, florals and plains from Zoffany's archive, printing them onto performance cloth so that French chintz and Japanese silk references survive a terrace, with print marks and ink bleeds deliberately left in to keep the vintage handle. For a working scheme the point is coordination rather than novelty, since the palette and the scales were built to layer, so an indoor sofa and an outdoor cushion can finally come from the same story instead of two unrelated suppliers.

House of Hackney's UNTAMED makes animal print pay its way

The UNTAMED Collection, House of Hackney's SS26 trade launch, treats animal print as authorship rather than trend, with 1% of collection sales going to World Land Trust to protect the habitats the patterns are drawn from. A maximalist statement paper with a conservation story attached.

Dulux goes plural: Rhythm of Blues is three colours, not one

For the first time Dulux named a colour family rather than a single shade for 2026: three indigo blues, airy Mellow Flow, vibrant Free Groove and meditative Slow Swing. The clearest mainstream signal yet that blue is displacing the long run of earthy neutrals in client conversations.

Porta Romana lets the glass stay molten in Flow

Flow, Porta Romana's new seasonal collection, is built around motion held in solid form: handblown glass that reads as still molten, locally forged metalwork and surfaces shifting from raw to reflective, including the Edna Pendant and Boudica lamps. A dependable source of sculptural statement lighting from a newly B Corp certified English maker.

Porcelain lanterns: Lee Broom's Cascade for Lladro

Lee Broom launched Cascade for Spanish house Lladro at Euroluce, translating the paper lantern into glowing tiered porcelain; it has since taken the EDIDA 2026 lighting prize.

PINCH greets the year with First Light

First Light is the newest collection from Russell Pinch and Oona Bannon, gathering the Tove circular dining table, the Glover drinks cabinet, Soren and Pium pendants and the Ellery bedside into one warm, pared-back release. PINCH remains the reference point for quiet British furniture that photographs like sculpture.
